What’s ahead for the Canadian Franchise Industry?

From Senior Care to AI the Canadian Franchise Association looks at what are likely to be the biggest trends in franchising in 2025

In celebration of business owners

As we kick off 2025 the Canadian Franchise Association is offering its thoughts on what are likely to be the biggest trends in 2025.

In the low-Cost, Service-Based Businesses space, for example, Home and mobile-based services, such as residential cleaning, janitorial services, home improvement, senior care, and B2B services, are expected to see strong demand this year. These low-cost, service-based businesses provide stability even in uncertain economic times.

Also likely to feature prominently are Senior Care Services; given the demand for senior services is expected to rise with Canada’s aging population. Franchises offering both medical and non-medical in-home care, as well as those that help seniors with relocation assistance and yard maintenance, will continue to flourish.

Meanwhile, the home renovations industry, despite being considered an old-growth industry, continues to show resilience regardless of economic cycles. This pattern is expected to continue in 2025, with many Canadians choosing to renovate rather than relocate. That should continue to fuel the home improvement franchise sector.

Unsurprisingly, Technology and AI Adoption is likely to prove key. Indeed, the integration of AI in franchising is growing, especially for optimizing customer engagement and franchisee performance. As franchisors use AI to analyze customer data, streamline operations, and boost retention, this technological shift will play a key role in shaping how franchises attract and serve customers.

Finally, further changes are afoot when it comes to Work-Life Flexibility: Many individuals are opting for self-employment to maintain work-life flexibility. Millennials and Gen Zer’s are leading this shift, with many seeking franchise ownership as a means of achieving financial independence and creating meaningful careers outside traditional employment structures.

Looking forward, business owners, with the right franchise, strong systems, and the backing of experienced franchisors, can still thrive, even amid economic uncertainties.
