No two days in the home care business are ever the same. That’s one of the things I love most about it. Every day brings new challenges, new opportunities to make a difference, and constant reminders of why I chose this career in the first place.
My day usually starts early, before I even leave the house. Coffee in hand, I settle into my home office and check overnight emails and updates. Home care is a 24-hour business, and although we have an exceptional after-hours team managing evening and overnight support, I always want to understand what has happened while the rest of the world was sleeping.
At the heart of every decision is one simple purpose: helping people age safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes.
Have there been any changes to a client’s care plan? Has a caregiver needed additional support? Is there anything that requires immediate attention? Starting the day informed means I can prioritise effectively and support both our clients and our team from the moment the day begins.
Where possible, I schedule business development meetings, networking events and community visits in the morning. As our service area continues to grow, that often means spending a fair amount of time on the road. Fortunately, I genuinely enjoy it.
Those quieter moments driving between towns give me the opportunity to think, plan and prepare for the conversations ahead. More importantly, travelling through the communities we serve is a constant reminder of our purpose. Every neighbourhood, rural road and small town represents someone who wants to remain safe, independent and comfortable in the place they call home.
Supporting clients and growing the business
By mid-morning, I’m often back with our office team, checking in with our care coordinators and management team. We review the day’s priorities, work through any challenges, celebrate successes and make sure every client continues to receive the high-quality care they deserve.
Home care is never a one-person operation. It takes an incredible team of compassionate, dedicated professionals working together towards a shared goal, and I’m fortunate to work alongside people who genuinely care about improving the lives of others.
No afternoon is ever quite the same.
One day I might be meeting healthcare professionals or community organisations to build new partnerships. The next, I could be developing new services, planning educational presentations, supporting local fundraising initiatives or working with families as they navigate some of life’s most difficult decisions.
Alongside running the business, there is also the strategic side of franchise ownership. Planning for growth, supporting our team, recruiting exceptional caregivers and ensuring we continue delivering outstanding care across every community we serve are all part of the role.
Why I love owning a home care franchise
Of course, not everything goes according to plan.
In fact, most days don’t.
But that’s the nature of the home care industry. Flexibility, compassion and problem-solving are just as important as planning. Every unexpected situation is another opportunity to support someone who needs us.
At the heart of every decision is one simple purpose. Helping people age safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes.
Whether I’m meeting with community partners, mentoring our team, supporting a family or planning the future of our home care business, that mission never changes.
For me, owning a home care franchise is about far more than running a successful business. It’s about building relationships, empowering caregivers, advocating for older adults and creating stronger, healthier communities.
There may never be such a thing as a “typical” day.
And honestly, I wouldn’t want there to be.
