For Stagecoach Performing Arts, that moment has arrived. After more than a decade leading the brand through growth, innovation and global expansion, CEO Andy Knights is preparing to step back from his role at the end of October.
Here, Andy reflects on his journey, shares his gratitude and looks ahead to the future – not as a farewell, but as a gentle change of role in the story of Stagecoach.
Leading Stagecoach for the past 11 years has been an incredible honour. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside a passionate team and dedicated franchisees, all committed to giving children the confidence to shine. Looking back, I feel immensely proud of how far we’ve come together.
My aim has always been to champion Stagecoach’s mission of fostering Creative Courage for Life. Over the years, we’ve expanded our global reach, introduced new programmes and strengthened our place as one of the world’s leading performing arts education providers. But the real legacy is not in numbers or milestones – it’s in the thousands of young people who have discovered confidence, creativity and self-belief through their Stagecoach experience.
One of the greatest privileges of this role has been working with our franchisees. They are the lifeblood of Stagecoach – entrepreneurs who bring the brand to life in their communities and create safe, inspiring spaces for children to grow. Their passion, commitment and resilience never fail to inspire me, and I have huge admiration for the way they balance running successful businesses with making a lasting difference to young people’s lives. Supporting their journeys and celebrating their successes has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my time as CEO.
Although I’m stepping down as CEO, I won’t be far away. From November, I’ll continue to support Stagecoach as a Board Advisor to our parent company – Trafalgar Education. It’s reassuring to know that my role may change, but my connection to this wonderful business remains strong.
Day-to-day leadership will now be in the hands of people I trust completely. Lisa Stead takes on the role of Interim CEO, bringing with her both deep knowledge of Stagecoach and a true commitment to our network.
“It’s a privilege to step into the role of Interim CEO at such a pivotal moment in Stagecoach’s journey. Andy has left an incredible legacy, and I’m committed to building on that foundation while supporting our teams and franchisees to flourish. Together, we will continue to inspire the next generation of young performers and ensure that Stagecoach remains a place where creativity and confidence can thrive,” Lisa explained.
Alongside Lisa, Matt Clark takes the role of Commercial Director – adding further strength to the leadership team. I know that, together, they will continue to evolve the brand while remaining true to its mission.
Stagecoach has an incredibly bright future, and I’m excited to watch it continue to grow and inspire even more young people across the globe. With Lisa and Matt leading the way, the business is in safe hands.
For me, this is not a goodbye – simply a change of role. I look forward to supporting Stagecoach from the sidelines, championing its ongoing success and continuing to witness the extraordinary impact it has on children’s lives.
